Monday 6.30pm Beginner Bachata / Bfitt with Amelia
Monday 23rd January – Monday 27th March
Bachata is a dance from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean islands. Both the music and the dance have been influenced by Cuban Bolero, the Merengue (also of Dominican Republic origin), Salsa and Cumbia. Bachata is one of the most popular styles of social dance in the Latin dance scene. This dance is based on an easy to follow sequence of three on-beat steps, with a tap marking the fourth beat. It is styled with a fluid movement of the body which is mesmerising to watch and just wonderful to dance! Bachata’s simplicity makes it a very beginner-friendly dance, while the opportunity for musical interpretation it provides makes it truly addictive for dancers of all levels.

(Finger Cymbals) with Jordan
Beyond Beginner + Level / Bfitt
Monday 23rd January – Monday 27th March
Ever wanted to get yourself better acquainted
with your finger cymbals?
Finger cymbals can be a belly dancer’s worst nightmare or their best friend. Alas, there are methods that make learning how to wrangle these beasts all the sweeter and easier. Finger Cymbals improve a dancer’s understanding of musicality, demonstrate a level of proficiency as a performer and add a joyful and dynamic element to the dance. They are fun, playful and a bread-and-butter part of belly dance, with deep roots in both Egyptian and Turkish tradition. Jordan teaches using methods learnt from studying with Shahrzad, Henna, Rachel Brice, Ashley Lopez and Karim Nagi. In this 10 week course dancers will learn how to play basic rhythms on finger cymbals and pair them with movement combinations. The connections between sound and movement will be clarified to give the dancer a sense of ease when using finger cymbals in their dance.

Wednesday 8.30pm – Open Level Cuban Son
Technique with Cara
Wednesday 25th of January – Wednesday 29th of March
Son is first and foremost a distinct music style that originated from east Cuba during the 19th century. During the 20th Century, it gradually gained popularity and turned from music and dance for the peasants, to a big hit in Havana’s ballrooms. Above all, you can summarize it in one word – Elegance. It is the music style that preceded and gave birth to Salsa (or better said casino) nowadays. Since then the popularity of Salsa grew and grew, while unfortunately, the popularity of Son declined. A Cuban Salsa dancer will learn and massively improve his/her leading/following skills if he/she chooses to dabble in Son. It’s an amazing learning experience that teaches one to appreciate many things we often neglect in Salsa: closed position, precision, simplicity courtesy and more…And the beautiful thing is that anything you learn in Son translates into Salsa almost directly. So if you want to to take your dancing further – Don’t hesitate and learn Son.

We’ll go over all the need to knows and for those with previous Baladi experience I’ll be addressing some previously untaught content that you will love.
