Saturday 21st of May
10am – 11.30am – Mens / Womens Rumba Styling – Open Level
Rumba is the heart beat of Cuban music! In this workshop we will learn the specific movement and techniques for both Men and Women for Rumba Dance, the cultural and musical ’need to knows’ and the steps to get you more confident in your Rumba dance.
11.30am – 12.30pm – LUNCH
12.30pm – 2pm – Cuban Son Dance – Open Level
Learn the art of Cuban Son! Son is the most elegant and romantic of Cuban Social dances, it’s vintage roots form a vast amount of the influence of Salsa yet it is distinctly different. In this workshop our instructors will show you some amazing step combinations to confidently take you onto the dance floor.

Join us for a Cuban Dance and Music Extravaganza!! With Australia’s most celebrated Afro-Cuban Salsa Band, Chukale (Brisbane), the Godmother of Cuban Dance in Australia, Christina Monneron and direct from Cuba, celebrated dance artist, Mariesly Paradalo! A free Salsa dance class for participants to kick off the evening, performances and mucho mucho fun! Come and dance the night away with us!

10am – 11.30am: Cuban Salsa – Open Level (A basic knowledge of Salsa is required). Come and learn some amazing new Cuban Salsa combinations from the amazing Christina and Mariesly!!

12.30pm – 2pm: Rueda de Casino – Open Level. (A Basic understanding of Rueda is required).
Our amazing instructors will share the most current info coming from Cuba about Rueda de Casino, amazing new moves and the absolute ‘must do’s’.

ABOUT CHRISTINA!!
Mauritian-born Christina studied with a principal artist of Cuba’s National Folkloric Dance Group in Sweden in 1996, beginning a journey that included participation in an intensive Afro-Cuban workshop held in Denmark and joining a dance troupe and dancing Afro-Cuban and Popular Cuban rhythms (salsa, cha cha cha, mambo, conga) all over Scandinavia.
She joined a cultural exchange program in Havana in 1998 where she studied AfroCuban dance, Yoruba spirituality and Santeria religion which led to her full initiation as a priestess of Santeria.
Christina introduced the energy and passion of Afro-Cuban rhythms to Australia in 1999 under the banner Cuban Dance Academy in Melbourne, which included hosting Cubamemucho, Australia’s first International Cuban Dance Congress in September 2009 and organising annual Culture, Dance & Music Tours to Cuba.
In 2010, Christina followed a call to community development work in arts & culture, especially fostering cross-cultural relations, first on the mid north coast of NSW, where she was named Coffs Harbour’s inaugural International Woman of the Year for her work with women and young girls in 2015. She is now based on the Gold Coast, QLD developing her unique business RhythMMM and also Afrekete Afro-Cuban Festival, and continue her ongoing commitment to enhance wellbeing & happiness, through the culture and rhythms of Cuba to people of all ages and abilities throughout Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the world.
ABOUT MARIESLY!!
Professional Dancer and teacher of Cuban Dance, Mariesly began her dance career at the age of 5 at the Fernando Alonso Ballet School, where she continued her studies for several years. She participated in professional workshops at several companies such as the “Teatro America”, “Teatro Narciso Medina” and “Teatro Tony Menendez”. In 2008, she joined the project led by former Tropicana dance and teacher Lucia Divigno, entering the world of Cabaret and Entertainment, which led her to various artistic groups such as Caribbean Show.
In 2008 she also began her studies of Physical Culture and Dance at the prestigious University Manual Fajardo, performing several internal events and in collaboration with other universities. Mariesly Paradelo is known as the Latin Bomb of Cuba and is passionate about the culture of her country. She is one of the dancers who not only loves to perform, but also loves to teach others. Mariesly specialises in all styles of Cuban dance, from Afro-Cuban Rhythms, Son, Pilon, Cha cha cha, to Salsa, Reggaeton and Ladies Styling in all genres. She has taught all over the world from Italy in “Vamos a Rumbear” to the Middle East in Dubai at Fujairah Dance Festival, also participating in international conferences. For several years she was part of the team of teachers with the prestigious dance school La Casona del Son under the direction of Silvia Canals.
Mariesly is the founder and creator of the Latinsalseando Salsa Project located in Havana, Cuba where she also has a community project for children aged 5 to 11 who begin their artistic training with Folkloric Dances and Ballet. She has participated in all editions of the International Cuban Dance Festival, RitmoCuba since its foundation in 2016 and is categorised as one of the best teachers demonstrating & promoting the richness of Cuban Culture to the rest of the world
