Cara is really excited to be teaching this style. Something she has studied personally for most of her dance career. It has coloured the way she dances and she’s often asked about the elements it brings to her dance style. So she is excited to share this with the Global Dance Collective students. Also known as Zambra Mora, the Zambra is a flamenco dance of the Romani people in Granada. It appears that the word Zambra has its meaning in the Arabic word zamra (flute) (flute) or zamara (musicians). The Romani Zambra was born in Sacromonte, in the caves of the Romani people. A style of song and dance inspired by the local Muslim weddings. When the Moors were persecuted by the Christians, they took refuge with the Romani, so that the latter ended up enriching themselves with their art. With the passage of time, the Zambra also became part of the weddings of the Romani of Sacromonte. At that time, the gypsy Zambra was danced barefoot, wearing a long skirt with large pleats tied at the hips that seemed to float when dancing and a blouse knotted under the chest. Students will be required to purchase a 25 yard skirt (which can be bought from Belly Dance stores) see Cara for more info on this. This course will focus on Choreography in term two. Which will be performed at Global Shimmy mid year. This course is open to everyone, from any dance background.
